A Rampart Sunset Walk
My favorite hour in the fort, in order. Twenty minutes if you don't stop, an evening if you do -- I never do it in twenty minutes.
- 1Start at the Old Gate
The original Dutch entrance, facing the harbor side. Best light for photos is right as the gate opens shade to the street inside.
- 2Galle Fort View
Duck in for the rooftop -- even if you're not staying, the terrace is where I send anyone asking about the best breakfast view in the fort.
- 3Flag Rock viewpoint
The rampart's southwestern tip. Locals fish off the rocks below most evenings -- worth ten minutes just watching.
- 4Ramparts Boutique Hotel
The upper-floor rooms here face the wall directly. Ask at the desk if you can see the corner room even if you're not booking -- most will let you.
- 5Sunset at the lighthouse
