Privacy policy
Last updated 26 September 2026.
What we collect
If you create an account, register, or submit a listing through Contribute, we collect what you provide directly — name, email, password (stored hashed, never in plain text), and the listing details you submit. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier from Google, and never see or store your Google password. Browsing the directory itself doesn't require an account and doesn't create one.
We also record, against your account, the fact and date you agreed to our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy, and your cookie preferences — kept as evidence of your consent, not shared with anyone else.
How it's used, and on what basis
We use account and submission details to run the directory: showing your contributions, letting you manage a claimed listing, authenticating you, and contacting you about your account or a submission. This processing is based on performing our contract with you (running the account and service you signed up for) and, for basic security and abuse prevention, our legitimate interest in keeping the Service working and safe. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for third-party advertising.
Contributor attribution
A submitted listing may show that it was added by a contributor. Your account email is never shown publicly — only whatever display name or attribution you choose when contributing.
Who we share it with
We share account and usage data with service providers who help us run the Service — our hosting provider, our email delivery provider, and Google (for Google Sign-In, if you use it). We require these providers to protect your data and only use it to provide their service to us. We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
We keep account data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward in case you return or as needed for legal, security, or record-keeping reasons. You can request deletion at any time — see "Your rights" below.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember basic preferences — these don't require your consent, since the Service can't function without them. If we ever introduce analytics or marketing cookies, we'll ask for your consent first through the cookie banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time — see our Cookie Policy for the full list of cookies in use and what each category means.
Your rights
Wherever you're located, you can ask us to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you;
- Correct it if it's inaccurate or incomplete;
- Delete it, subject to any legal reason we may need to keep some of it;
- Export it in a portable format;
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
If you're in the European Economic Area or UK, these are your rights under the GDPR/UK GDPR specifically; we extend the same rights to every visitor regardless of location. To exercise any of them, reach out via the contact page. We'll respond within a reasonable time, and in any event within one month for a GDPR-covered request.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under that age. See our Terms for our minimum age requirement. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service changes. If we make a material change, we'll update the "Last updated" date above, and may ask returning users to re-confirm their agreement.
